8.19.11

My baby boy is going to be three in 2 weeks. How did this happen? We never really experienced the "terrible twos" with him. He's generally pretty mellow - that doesn't mean we didn't have meltdowns though, they were just short lived and easier to deal with. However, as the "threes" approach, I'm definitely noticing an serious increase in ummm...frustrating behaviour. As they say, three is two with intent. As in, when they were two, they were throwing tantrums because they weren't sure what they wanted, and if they did, they didn't know how to get it across. But at three, they know what they want, how to get it and will throw a tantrum regardless. We also get a lot of NO!!!! and his favorite new pasttime is to "shush" me and Josh. Eg. "Wyatt, you need to clean up your trucks before we eat supper." "SHHHHH! NO! You do it!" I swear, my eyebrows are permanently raised in the "you did NOT just say that" pose. I also do an awful lot of blinking while I think of something mature to say to him, to the point that he asked me if my eyes were hurting yesterday. Yes, as a result of my brain hurting. Thanks for asking, dear.

  1. I wish someone had warned me about the "threes". I thought we got off easy, because Annika was never really a "terrible two" either, and then the threes hit. Although, maybe it had something to do with getting a sibling as well.
I also assume the "you did not just say that" pose quite a bit.

  2. Awwww, my little muffin is getting so BIG! And smart-alecky, haha. Yikes! But your patience muscles are getting pretty strong, I'm sure you'll make it through 3 just fine :)

  3. Ah yes, the timing of the sibling in both of our cases seems to align with the "threes", doesn't it?

K, your little muffin is not so little at all anymore. In fact, I suspect he should be passing you in height by his next birthday. ;)
