3.30.12

I'm going to have to cave. I was hoping to avoid child safety locks on every cabinet in the house - with Wyatt it wasn't much of an issue - but it's been clear from day 1 that these kids are polar opposites, so I shouldn't be surprised. Sure, it's annoying that several times a day, Paige pulls 20+ books out of the cabinet, but the real issue is that she chews on all of them. And on an hourly basis, I am fishing literature out of her mouth. Not exactly how you are supposed to "devour" books.

Wyatt's such a goof sometimes. :)
I was trying to get a picture of Paige too, she started waving and clapping over the past week. Of course, the batteries in my really good camera died (and are $20 to replace), the battery in my sort of good camera died (charging now!), and any photo with movement is a blurry mess on my phone. So, today you get the treat of another Wyatt picture!

This is Wyatt showing me Paige's "mad face". I can assure you, Paige has never made this face! Ha ha.

3.18.12

We spent this lovely weekend outside for the most part. I swear, I did try to get some nice pictures of Wyatt, and I think the best one I got was posted yesterday. :P We went for a few walks, I attempted a run outside for the first time in 8 years, we played in the backyard, we BBQ'd, washed the vehicles, and on and on and on. I mean, it was 21 degrees today! We would have been crazy to stay inside. However, because Wyatt loves being outside (which is great), he throws a massive tantrum every time we need to come inside. It makes Josh and I both hesitant to take him outside because we know what the end result will be, no matter how much talking up we do beforehand. And suddenly, he's developed a fear of the slide AND the swing in the backyard - he's okay with his little blue Fisher Price swing, but that's really for babies (although it does have a weight limit of 40 pounds, and he is right under that, he looks ridiculous jammed into it), but he only wants to sit (no moving) on a regular swing. So many things that he should love doing, he's just downright scared of. Riding a bike or trike. Swinging. Sliding. I don't understand...I know he's always been cautious, but even last year he loved the slide. Something changed, and now he's just freaked out - he did say we would push him off (0r down?) it...it was hard to understand because he was sobbing. I wonder if a trip to the park with daycare didn't go well? I will have to talk to his DCP and see if she remembers anything. :S

I'm not sure what makes me prouder - that Paige said her first word, or that I figured out how to embed a video onto my blog. ;)

3.15.12

I wish I had some photos to post. But unless I want to take pictures of Wyatt throwing a massive tantrum, or proof that he beats on his sister, I haven't got much to work with these days.
Today, Wyatt asked to ride his bike. We haven't been successful over the last 2 summers with this. We tried with a trike first. Then a bike with training wheels. He'd get on, make a half hearted attempt to push on the pedals then say, "I need a break."
Me: "You haven't even tried yet, you don't need a break. Just do one full pedal all the way around, then you can get off the bike."
Wyatt: "IDON'TWANNAPEDALIDON'TLIKEBIKINGMYPENISHURRRRRRRRTS!"
Yeah.
So then I thought, because I bought the bike 2nd hand and it's pretty beat up, maybe it IS hard to pedal. We took a quick trip to Walmart to get him a try a new bike there. The first bike had Lightening McQueen, I figured it had to be a hit. Wrong. Tears. Screaming. I talked him off the edge, and we found a smaller bike. Hot Wheels, again, I figured this might be enticing. Wrong again. More tears. Louder screaming. In fact, it turned into a full out flailing tantrum and I became that mom who carried her 40 pound kid out of store in a football hold. AWESOME.
Putting him to bed tonight, he apologized and said he wanted to try again. I'm not sure if he's capable of pedaling, or if his co-ordination isn't there. Hopefully we get it sorted out soon, he seems eager enough to try it, but it's no fun for anyone if he's that miserable.

I'm such a lazy blogger, and I have no excuse. I even have the Blogger app on my phone. So here's another 2 pics!

I know everybody's seen the pigtails pics (or seen them in person...mom), but they deserve a spot on the blog too. Look how freaking cute she is! Josh thought I was an idiot when I first said I was going to put pigtails in, and then he saw them. I win.
I made cupcakes the other day, and Wyatt wanted to help SO badly, but since they weren't for us to eat, I had to say no. Then he found his own way to "make" them. He loves being in the kitchen and wants to help with everything. He has a play kitchen that he could spend hours at - making cakes, sandwiches, soup, etc. I think it helps that Josh does a lot of food prep in our house, shows Wyatt that not just women like to cook and bake!

3.2.12

Wyatt brought a balloon home from daycare and it proved to be a source of entertainment for both kids. Although, 10 minutes after putting Wyatt to bed he started hollering at me to take the balloon out of his room - "it's pretending to be a ghost." Um...okay.
